Warjack Profile: Kodiak

kodiak.jpgThe first warjack I bought, having bought the starter box and widowmakers was the Kodiak, because as anyone who has the Khador army book will know, the background to it and the imagery that is served up with it is absolutely amazing. So what makes the Kodiak so impressive?

First of all this is the only Warjack that Khador can field (excluding Scrapjack) that comes with Pathfinder (not counting relentless charge) which is huge, the fact that this jack can walk through a dense forest as if it was open terrain is an incredible boon to any force even more so in the case of casters like Old Witch and Starkhov who throw down Terrain features as part of thei Tier lists, then add to this that for a point of focus the Kodiak can use it's Vent Steam ability, to not only deliver a world of hurt to a fair number of infantry, but also gives concealment, giving you a heavy warjack with DEF equal to the basic DEF of  widowmakers and blocking LOS to anything sat close enough behind.

As well as this the Kodiak has a Heavy Boiler, allowing it to run for free. so you can now have a khadoran 'jack with ability to move as far as an average light jack can charge, with the added bonus of Pathfinder. Then add into the equation that this 'jack has a very nice chain attack Grab and Smash, basically if the jack hits the same model with both it's inital attacks it may immediately make a poer attack against the target, and given that the Kodiak has two open fists, that includes the double handed throw. As such the Kodiak really benefits from any form of ability that boosts it's accuaracy (Superiority or Full Throttle) or decreases the opponents DEF (Sorscha's Feat, Ice Cage).

Another way of doing this is to Jack marshal the Kodiak with the Man O War Kovnik, as his drive auto boosts the 'jacks attack rolls for  free, and then you still have the psudeo focus (provided you didn't charge) to boost the damage. Given my experience with the Kodiak, I'd say marshalling it is a bad idea, given that you'll want to give this 'jack focus even though it rarely needs it, although that is just my opinion, so it varies on people experiences, don't just take my word for it, take the model for a spin see what it does, if it works better marshalled fair enough, I just feel that the Kodiak while it's good marshalled it is so much better when it has a caster putting focus on it.
