Warcaster Profile: pSorscha
Originally one of the most powerful casters in the game in Mk 1, since then she has been toned down, but still remains a very good caster. Hard to hit, but easy to kill.
Sorcha's stats are average across the board, apart from an above average DEF and slightly below average ARM. Similarly Sorscha has an average focus, which due to her spells being relatively expensive can leave Sorscha highly vulnerable, more so if your opponent can get round her DEF (looking at you pKreoss).
Her feat is incredibly good if used correctly. It freezes all models in her control radius and Line of Sight. This allows Sorscha to slow an army right down. Note that Stealth does not get around this as it only makes ranged attacks miss and also allows Sorscha to see through Stealthed models as they don't block LoS. Normally this feat is played the turn the player is about to send Sorscha on an assassination run, using her spells for extra manouverability and to increase the amount of models affected, then charging and potentially killing the opposing caster/warlock. It's worth keeping in mind the ease that this effect can be shaken the next turn, generally if the opponents caster/warlock is dead then Sorscha likely will be unless either your opponent fluffs lots of rolls or there is very little left of your opponent's army to try to kill Sorscha.
Looking at Sorscha's weapons, she comes with a standard hand cannon, which has enough POW to kill off solos and threaten more armoured models with a boost on the damage roll. Next we have Frostfang, Sorscha's scythe, with Reach, Critical Freeze and Magical Weapon it's a good weapon with middle of the road P+S, Sorscha tends not to want to be in melee unless she goes on an assassination run, but Frostfang does threaten a fair amount of models, especially warcasters given the saying "boosted POW 12's kill casters" when Sorscha's weapon is slightly more powerful than that and if you don't have to use a great deal of focus in getting there theres a good chance of killing the target in one or two hits.
Sorscha's spell list is a balance of mobility spells, DEF buffs and spells to boost her feats efficiency. Boundless charge allows a target model to charge for free, gains a small movement increase and pathfinder. This spell almost cries out to be used on warjacks, as it frees up a focus for a warjack to have an extra boost/attack, though it does also have a good application by throwing it on Sorscha, increasing her charge range and getting around any terrain that is between her and her target (beides impassable, which is obviously impassable). Then we have Wind Rush, granting Sorscha a full advance and DEF buff, using this spell you can effectively move twice allowing for extra long charges and makes Sorscha even more difficult to hit for this reason alone Sorscha should be casting this each turn. Fog of War, covers Sorscha's control area and grants concealment to all models (friendly and enemy) this used with Wind Rush can push Sorscha's DEF to the point where even a boosted ranged attack roll from Eiryss would miss on average, this works very well with models with camoflauge such as Widowmakers as they can stand in the open and still gain the benefit of the DEF buff. Tempest is the spell that can really help make the most of Sorscha's feat, the spell has a short range, knocking down enemy models in the AoE, this works well if your opponent attempts to use models to shield other models from Sorscha's feat, such as Man O Wars or similar medium base units as their low DEF will make them relatively easy to hit with the spell, however it does cost two thirds of Sorscha's focus so don't use it frivolously, it'll more often than not end with Sorscha being squashed due to being unable to boost her ARM, also it can affect friendly models so pick targets carefully. Freezing grip is an alternative to Tempest, as it can cause stationary against any models without immunity cold, think her feat, except it's targetted and costs focus. Given the cost of the spell and the ease of which jacks and beasts can shake stationary the best targets for this spell are units, the bigger the unit the better, as this way if a unit is getting close and you don't want to use your feat or don't have it available this makes for a good alternative.
Finally there is Razor Wind, the Khadoran equivalent of Arcane Bolt (Cygnar's signature basic damage spell), decent range and damge, it provides Sorscha with a way of dealing with incorporeal models or models such as Vilmon the Paladin of the Wall solo that the Protectorate fields who has the ability to become immune to all non magical damage.
In a nutshell Sorscha is an assassination caster, as such to make her work, you must use her army to aid this or better still exploit her feat in order to carry out the assassination. Mainly this will consist of taking lots of AoEs, so mortar crews, Destroyers, Behemoth or even the Conquest at higher points levels. The general idea being to use tempest to knock down models to ensure LoS to the caster then feating and shooting every AoE into them. Alternatively use your army to pin your opponents army, cast Wind Rush to reposition and cast Boundless charge for some extra range, feat to lock the opponent's army and charge right through and smash the opposing caster, with the Stationary effect, this should deal the fatal blow to most casters, but as we all know dice are not always reliable so it's best to have a model or two in hand to soften up the caster if possible as this is the best way of using Sorscha's feat to it's fullest potential.
