The first time I ever saw these models, I didn't think much of them, simply as I was new to Khador and very set in the walk forward > smash face > win mind set. Given a little experience and the realisation that having shed loads of infantry as well as tough as nails jacks wins games I found myself hitting a bullet/mortar wall from Cygnar and Menoth players where I struggled to get my army over to the other side to get to their caster, thats when I came back to these guys and I've not yet regretted using them.
First thing to consider is that these models are strictly support models, that can under certain circumstances perform well and take out models, the majority of the time they'll be helping your army in one way or another, be it making things easier to hit or making your army harder to see.
Their stats reflect their support status, with normal infantry SPD, low MAT and RAT (fortunately neither tend to see much use) and ok DEF and ARM, their CMD allows them to spread out a bit, but more often than not they tend to work best closer together so they can use their abilities to the greatest extent. The Rune Axe the Greylords come with is actually quite a nice weapon, with good POW and it's a magical weapon which is ideal for dealing with wraiths and other Incorporeals.
The main reason you bring Greylords to the table is their spell casting abilities. Their magical ability (the score you use to see if a spell hits or not) is average which means more often than not you will be casting successfully. Their first spell is Blizzard, this allows you to target a model within a nice distance and drop a small cloud effect on to it, granting concealment and blocking LOS, worth noting that if you cast this on a model the cloud won't move with the model, so move the model first then move your Greylords, also worth noting as this isn't an attack it doesn't require you to roll to hit. Second and the most commonly used spell is Frostbite (aka the magical shotgun) fires a medium spray with Hand Cannon POW, short and sweet. If your Greylords are within range of an enemy model this is the best way to deal with them, asides Warjacks, however that is what Ice Cage is for. The final spell Ice Cage is a debuff spell with decent range which if all three Greylords hit causes stationary, useful for making that hard to hit unit/jack stand still long enough to knock a system or two or kill a fair few men.
Overall Greylords are an excellent toolbox piece, bringing buff and debuff with two magical weapon options (Frostbite and the Rune Axe), commonly they will survive long enough to earn their points back or at the very least save a few models from directly being hit by AOEs due to Blizzard. They work excellently with control casters such as Old Witch or Zerkova, but also do well with Strakhov (Gorman di Wulfe +GTs and Strakhov = 5 - 8 cloud effects per turn) so they are very much a unit worth trying out, as they'd probably work well in conjunction with Iron Fang Pikemen sheild walled, they are nigh inpregnable, at least without some serious fire power being thrown their way.
