Last week of Tournament Prep

Hi eveyrone, sorry for the long gap of no posts, as  I mentioned in the title next week is the Ribble Rumble tournament I've been waiting for, so most of my time and effort is being spent looking at how my armies work, getting them painted and trying to get practice games in. Hasn't left much free time for me to attend to the blog, but as I've got a few free minutes I'm going to post up the lists I'm taking and do a quick run through why I chose what I did and how the army "should" work.

List 1

Points: 50/50

Kommandant Irusk (*6pts)
* Beast-09 (11pts)
* War dog (1pts)

Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 5 Grunts) (7pts)
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Black Dragon Officer & Standard (2pts)
Kayazy Assassins (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Kayazy Assassin Underboss (2pts)
Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator (1pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
Iron Fang Kovnik (2pts)

This list has one thing in mind, playing to Khador's strength of having some very hard hitting troops (Doom Reavers) backed up by a solid unit that can pin units if needs be (Iron Fangs) and a unit that can just ignore everything and go for the caster kill (Kayazy). The wardog is in due to Irusk's dislike of being caught in a melee he doesn't want to be in, also counter charge is usually hilarious, Reinholdt grants a potential third shot, or a better chance of hitting with Airburst, as well as just ensuring that charge distance is actually within reach. The Iron Fang Kovnik is a brilliant addition to the Iron Fangs, immunity to knockdown helps so much, and the versatility given by the Black Dragon UA is also good, allowing you to be very precise with where on  a jack you put that damage, or just granting fearless, which is great given the Doom Reavers. The Nyss, I didn't originally want to put in but the way points went I had little choice, although Hunter has given them a way to earn their points back relatively fast.

List 2

Hunting Wolves NQ tier List

Koldun Kommander Aleksandra Zerkova (*6pts)
* Vanguard (4pts) Tier bonus

* Kayazy Assassin Underboss (2pts)
Kayazy Eliminators (Leader and Grunt) (3pts)
Kayazy Eliminators (Leader and Grunt) (3pts)
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts)
Koldun Lord (2pts)
Marauder (6pts) Tier Bonus - Marshalled

If my Irusk list seemed straight forward and simple minded, then this sure isn't. Starting with the Battlegroup we have two Vanguards (for the purpose of the tier list Khadoran jacks) which for 4 points (thanks to tier 4) have Reach, a shield (and Shield Guard) and a gun, all that alone makes them an excellent choice as Zerkova needs all the defensive help she can get. Then we come to the Spriggan, or as I've come to call it my mobile stealth removal, it's a great jack for other reasons, but when your opponent is lingering just out of charge range the mayhem caused by removing stealth from a unit then watching the widowmakers pop a fair chunk of the unit is just gold. Then we come to the Greylords, for the most part they are a support piece, providing clouds as the army advances, but when they get close enough they start shooting out vast amounts of Frostbites, another bane of Stealthed infantry and if theres a hard to hit unit, the unit teams up and casts Ice cage on it to attempt to make them stationary (great on melee only units). The main part of the list is the Kayazy, the Jammers (Assassins) and the Finishers (Eliminators), contray to the views of most when they first face the list the Assasins don't do what they do in list 1 (i.e. jump over everyone and go for the Assassination) they go and lock down as big a unit as possible allowing everything else to clear charge lanes, whilst the Eliminators run down the flanks, (charging units if needs be to get the extra movement from side step) and usually one of the units pins and slowly grinds down the caster, the other unit usually creates a distraction or dies in the process, but normally people tend to forget that inspite of having P+S in single figures the eliminators have a fair lot of bite to them.

So there you have it my two lists, I'll try to write up battle reports when I get back next week (can't promise though, my memory isn't great at the best of times). In the mean time hope all of you are still enjoying the hobby and getting some great games out of it, just remember - Play like you've got a pair.

Thanks again for your patience.
