Fresh view on Khador

Hi, once again I'm slipping in putting up posts, I can only apologise for that, currently the Warmachine scene is incredibly slow right now. However this has given me a little chance to think and refine ideas or come up with some wildly interesting ideas such as my current train of thought, an eSorscha list.

Now as probably every Warmachine player to have played or played against Sorscha in her prime incarnation they will probably expect the Assassination run and defense buffs (and debuff in the form of her feat) that Sorscha's epic form wouldn't be that different, to a point they are right. That point being when turning epic Sorscha has taken it upon herself to send her army forward to do that and cause the largest amount of pain they can while she sits back and pops the unlucky solo plucky enough to go near her. Put another way, while eSorshca maintains her assassination style she uses her army to do the heavy lifting while she is mainly reduced to throwing out spells and buffs on on the other models in the unit.

A prime example comes in the form of our premier shooting unit, the Widowmakers, as they stand they are very good, add eSorscha's  Shatterstorm and they're horrific. The way it works is that when an enemy model is hit and boxed by a ranged attack from a unit under the effects of Shatterstorm they become the centre of an AoE with the power of a scattered mortar shot, in short ouch. Add to this the Widowmaker's sniper ability, making it nigh impossible to fail to kill single wound infantry and set off the effect of Shatterstorm.

A further though I have had is Sorscha's feat in her epic form rather than taking down opponent's DEF she halves their ARM (so even a POW 10 Sword is now looking at doing some decent damage to heavy jacks unboosted), throw in some of our premier melee units such as Kayazy or even (if you are truly that determined to make your opponent feel 2 inches tall) Doom Reavers and the Great Bears, being Weapon Masters both units make short work of most affected models and look to cause even mighty colossals a headache or two.

Speaking of colossals, the Conquest deserves a mention as eSorscha is one of the best casters to run it with (Feat + Shatterstorm and Multifire from Sorscha's Quad Iron will see off most opposing casters as long as the hits connect) . This is without mentioning Boundless Charge or her warjack bond causing enemy models within reach range of the bonded jack to become stationary unless they have immunity: cold. In fact eSorscha is also greatly capable of running a Winter Guard Death Star list, as she has an Elite Cadre with them allowing Winterguard to reroll failed Combined Attacks, as well as Desperate Pace to help a unit up the field that little bit faster.

I'm planning on adapting my tournament pIrusk list to fit eSorscha in as the caster, as I feel with Vengance around the corner, there may yet be ways to crack colossals round the corner but for now, eSorscha provides one of the best ways of dealing with them and any other models choosing to hide behind a high ARM stat. Thats it for now, next week I plan to get at least one game in so I should hopefully get a battle report in by next weekend, failing that I shall endavour to get the promised painting tutorial up. In the meanwhile I'm going to give a mention to a new blog covering a friend's new Warhammer 40K Space Marine chapter - the Dusk Wardens, it's currently a work in progress but please do go and look it up, I'm sure once it gets going (probably in two weeks) it'll be really quite something. Till next time, play well and play hard.

  1. Good read, however one point in regards to eSorscha's feat. It reads the following:

"Damange to enemy models without Immunity: Cold currently in Sorcha's control area that exceed ARM is doubled this turn"

So it doesnt halve the ARM but rather doubles your damage if you manage exceed its ARM value.

Either way, great feat and nasty to just about everything except those immune to cold.
