Looking Forward: Vengeance

Hi, sorry for the massive gaps in posts, since the tournament and the journeyman wrapping up (I finish second overall in that, which I was quite happy with) Warmachine is tailing off at my local gaming club at the moment. That said there's still big things coming up soon, we've had the release of Convergence of Cyriss last month and though I've yet to see any hit the table top I'm told by a friend who has a 25 point army, it's really quite a nice army. More importantly for Khador players we've got the upcoming release of the new expansion: Vengeance, which I believe is set to drop in January 2014, bringing a whole new bag of good stuff our way.

From the picture we can see two arguses leading to speculation that this will be Khador's first Warcaster unit, that or the Wardog is about to get a pretty potent shot. Very little is currently known about him at the moment, though there's various rumours going round, such as a link to the horn (visible on his hip by his axe butt) being something to do with his feat, or potentially the Arguses. All that can be said for sure is that come January there's going to be a whole new meaning to Butchering your opponent's army.

Journeyan Warcaster - Kovnik Andrei Malakov

Malakov (or as I call him mini Irusk, read the fluff and compare it with pIrusk I'm sure you'll draw similar conclusions) is the answer to many players prayers, he brings a speed buff (that isn't a feat or Superiority or Boundless charge) to our jacks, granted it does damage to the jack, but would you rather you damage your jack then wreck face or watch as your opponent snipes your jacks into submission? One very interesting rule I noted on Malakov is Sucker! essentially if he was to be hit by a ranged attack he can grab a model within reach range and that model takes the hit instead, think of it as a reverse Shield Guard, then think of grabbing the nearest Man O War and let him take the hit ;) who said they weren't competitive. A quick note, whilst Malakov was availble through Kickstarter, he will also be available in an unlimited run after the Kickstarter models are sent out, so don't panic if you've not got one, theres lots yet to come.

Greylord Outriders

http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/m3ohkc3-aJl8nXVs2mTY0nw.jpg These guys have already been released for a fair bit and I did have a little look over them in a previous post (see: Rise of the Cavalry), again yet to see them on the table top yet. This doesn't mean they're not good just that they've not found a place in people's armies yet for what ever reason, my personal reason being, I'm not a fan of cavalry (yet still bought 2 boxes of Ulhans and lVlad...) and I have a list I'm quite happy with as it stands, I maintain that these guys are useful for causing mayhem, especially against armies who leave their flanks exposed, five frostbites into a unit then galloping off is sure to annoy most opponents. Looking at them I feel you'd need to build an army around a theme to fit them in though, the army needs to be fast otherwise your magic flinging horseback guys are going to be sat in a whole pile of trouble being whacked while the opposing army marches towards you.

Iron Fang Kovnik

See Shield March gives Man O Wars the ability to cover almost as much ground in shield wall as they could running, same goes for all our Shield Wall models and to top it off, this guy kicks ass in combat, thanks to the Unyielding rule (so if he doesn't kill that model he gets an ARM buff) and his axe having Reach and Weapon master. Tag on to all of this him bring No sleeping on the job to Iron Fang Pikemen and you've found the key to making pKreoss players cry as you've made his feat null and void while this guy stays alive, also his excellent command means models taking Command checks will be standing their ground relatively happily.

There's more

Yes, there is more yet to come, personally I'm guessing with pretty much certainty we'll get another jack (after all the game is called Warmachine for a reason), some are speculating that it'll be Butchers character jack and will look something like this...

Nice though it'd be I think we'll probably see something a little tamer (please be a character Kodiak :)) and other than that I'd hope for a second caster maybe, not too fussed on that one though seen as I own all of them now and I've used seven of them so I'm not in a hurry for another just yet.

Thats it for now, however in the coming month, we have a painting guide for painting your jacks, hopefully some analysis on new models and I've got a friend doing a write up in what to avoid when facing the Snipe, Feat and Go mistress that is Ravyn. Until next time, keep playing like you've got a pair!
